The Story Behind the Art

The perks of installing art for a living include hearing the stories behind the collection, and we recently had the honor of learning about the inspiration behind the purchase of a lovely contemporary drawing.

Our clients were a long-married couple who had recently moved into their home. They called us to install several large pieces, and this one stood out to us. It seemed to have special significance for them, and when we asked, they were happy to tell the story.

The wife from this couple had been diagnosed with breast cancer, and she was undergoing all of the difficult treatments which that entails. And of course, breast cancer is a serious disease, and they were afraid for her life.

While they were going through this ordeal together, they attended a charity art auction to support breast cancer research, and they saw this beautiful yellow picture of a young woman recovering from a mastectomy.

Unfortunately they were outbid on this one - I found it later via an internet search. The artist's name is Arash, and you can actually commission a drawing of your own through his Etsy account.

That's what our clients did. They had the artist, Arash, create a lovely new drawing based on the same theme, but with a deep blue background, and a little yellow butterfly. ​I actually think the new version is even better than the original yellow one. The colors are very clear, and her expression is so sensitively portrayed! He's obviously a talented man.

The story has a happy ending: with the help of their medical team, they defeated the cancer and have had several years to enjoy art, and life, and a new home together.
